Fred's Story

DAYTON - Fred Allen Osgood, 86, passed away on April 18, 2015. He was born on Monhegan Island, in 1928, the son of Harold and Veniene Osgood.

Fred is survived by his loving wife Harriet; five children Dean, Dan, Carl, Gary, and Laura and their spouses. He is also survived by sisters Ellen Brennan, Margaret Moore, Kathleen McRae and her husband Paul, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by his brothers Harold, Donald and Eugene.

Fred began his working life at a paper mill in Old Town, then became a carpenter and contractor, a builder and dorm-parent at Glen Cove Christian Academy in Rockport and finally fulfilled his life's calling to God as a pastor of Spruce Head Community Church.

He loved woodworking, playing with his grandchildren, sharing time with friends on Penobscot Bay in a boat he made with his own hands. He was adventurous, spontaneous, caring, generous, joyful and loving--always ready to visit or help anyone in need.

Fred never met a lobster he didn't like. Every time his motorcycle left the yard the church prayer circle went into high gear. He loved and was loved by everyone. He faithfully brought the light of Christ to everyone he met, including the bagboy at the supermarket. Always ready to give, wanting nothing in return, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2015 from 5-8 pm at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 13 Portland Road, Buxton. On Thursday, April 23rd, an hour of visitation will be held at Living Stone Church in Standish from 1-2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Living Stone Church building fund or the Alzheimer's' Association of Maine.
