Frank's Story

FRENCHVILLE - Frank Martin passed away peacefully on February 23rd at his residence with his wife and children by his side. He was born on May 25th, 1941 son of Joe and Edith (Chasse) Martin of Frenchville. After graduating from high school, Frank served his country in the United States Army and completed a tour in Vietnam. He was a meat manager for First National stores until purchasing a business in 1972 which became Martin's Service and Auto Parts where he and his wife, in a most admirable partnership, served the community for 31 years. In addition to serving his customers and frequently helping people out of binds, he enjoyed spending time talking with his customers and sharing stories. He loved all people and all people loved him. He was a warm, generous and hard-working man. He was proud of all his childrens' successes and strong work ethics, which he undoubtedly instilled. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time at his camp on Long Lake; often saying he felt like he was on vacation when there. He also loved to garden and often called it his "therapy".

He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife for nearly 49 years, Joyce (Dufour) Martin. He is survived by his three children, Scott Martin and wife Kelly of Milton NH, his daughter Tammy (Martin) Weston of Cumberland ME, and his son Shawn Martin and his wife Michelle of Turner ME.

He adored his grandchildren Tony and Hannah Martin, Griffin and Olivia Weston, Emily and Colby Martin, and his great-granddaughter Haylee Martin. They were the sunshine of his life. He loved to have them visit and enjoyed taking them out for boat, snowmobile and four wheeler rides. He was also very fond of his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his brother Leo James (Tom) Martin and his wife Lucile of Frenchville ME, his sister Loraine (Martin) Morin and her husband Paul of Newington CT, sister in Law Judy Bouchard and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Edith (Chasse) Martin, his brother Gerald Martin, sister Priscilla O'Connell, brother-in-law Bert Dufour, Ron Dufour, and Willard Dufour, Sister in law Rolande Martin, nephews Paul Martin, John O'Connell, Kevin Dufour and Michael Albert, niece Debbie Stankiewicz.

An active member in the community, Frank was member of the American Legion Post 145 Frenchville, ME and served multiple duties over the years including Post Commander (1981, 2010-2012), as well as Financial Officer and Adjutant. He was a Knight of Columbus with KC Council 7920 of St. Agatha, ME. Roles in the Knights included serving as Grand Knight for 2 years, and Faithful Navigator. Frank was also a volunteer Fireman for 20 years and retired with the rank of Captain.

A mass and Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am. Saturday February 28, 2015 at the St. Luce Catholic Church in Frenchville. Family and friends may call at Michaud Funeral Home in St. Agatha on Friday Feb. 27, 2015 from 6 to 8pm. and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 until time of service with Rev. James Plourde officiating.
