Francis's Story

Francis "Al" Willett, Jr., 88, died peacefully August 2, 2016 at a local health care facility. He was born July 3, 1928 in Old Town a son of Francis Sr and Flora Ellen (Perry) Willett.

Al's passion was gardening and this passion led him to Florida where he worked in various cities as a gardener and landscaper. He returned to Maine where he was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center where he retired from. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, the many conversations, his willingness to lend a helping hand, his constant tinkering and taking things apart. He also has a passion for his catholic religion and could recite many biblical passages. He volunteered in the church library, taught Sunday school and tended to the flower beds around the church grounds. He enjoyed riding horses. Al also donated to many different charities throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years Carolyn (Hanscom) Buchannan Willett; son David Willett and his wife Geri of Ormand Beach, FL; three daughters Anne Nevells and her husband Fred of Bradley, Patti Taylor and her husband Steve of Old Town, and Barbara Trask and her husband Eric of Milford; seven grandchildren Michele Balestri, Tracey Prieto, Troy Nevells, Jason Nevells, Myranda Lyn Brideau, Melissa MacArthur, and Lisa Coffin; 14 great grandchildren; sister Rita McGlinchey of Old Town and a brother Robert Willett of NJ; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great granddaughter Sara MacArthur in 1999 and stepson James Buchannan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Monday at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Immediately following the services at the cemetery all are invited to return to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
