Florence's Story

BANGOR - Florence Esther Long, 84, wife of the late Willis "Roy" Long, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Cheryl, in Orono March 5, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born October 29, 1930, in Bangor, daughter of Grover and Esther (Conary) Hall.

Florence was a graduate of Bangor High School and will be remembered as a successful Avon Representative for 35 years. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Cheryl's dogs, Sophie, Shade and Shorty. Florence and Roy were longtime members of the Columbia Street Baptist Church in Bangor and also members of the Eagles Club Penobscot Arie #3177 of Brewer.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Long of Bangor and Cheryl Long of Orono; two grandchildren, Jaime Randall and her husband, Matt, of Glenburn and Duane McCarter of Bangor; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Harley Randall; one great-grandson, Rhonan McCarter; and three stepchildren, Nancy, Jimmy and Sharon. In addition to her parents and husband, Roy, she was predeceased by two brothers, Eddie and Junior.

A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Stan Moody, pastor of the Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, following the interment Sunday.
