- Flora (Nanny) Dow, 84, returned to her heavenly home on January 28, 2017. Her devotion to her late husband of 55 years (Elmer F. Dow), her family, and her trust in God supported her throughout her life and ultimately gave her peace. Flora was born to the late Preston Schoppe and Mona Willey in Cherryfield on July 11, 1932. She grew up in Cherryfield and graduated from Cherryfield Academy in 1949. Flora and Elmer established their home on New Street in Cherryfield where they raised their family.
Flora always worked hard to provide for her family. Over the years, she worked in several different jobs including Worcester Wreath which was her last place of employment. She was an intelligent, quick-witted lady with a great sense of humor and always made time for her family. She was prolific and gifted with crochet hooks and her sewing machine, crafting everything from homemade wedding gowns to beloved teddy bears. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who now celebrate the fact that she is at peace and once again reunited with Elmer.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, newborn twin daughters, and her sisters and brother. She is survived by her daughters Mona West, Karen Worcester, Wendy Shank, her son David and their children, as well as half-brother, Carl (Sam) Nankervis, Jr., as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and one very special niece, Terrie Pinkham who spent many hours with her aunt.
There will be no formal service at this time. Flora will be buried beside her husband at the cemetery on Butler Road in Cherryfield surrounded by her family whenever weather permits. The family gratefully declines flowers and donations but will gladly accept prayers, condolences and memories. Arrangements entrusted to Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Milbridge, ME.
