Fern's Story

ASHLAND - Fern A. Jimmo, 93, died peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in Norristown, PA. She was born February 6, 1922, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Edward and Alexina (Fournier) Despres.

Fern last worked with A&P Grocery Store for several years. Previously her and her husband owned and operated former Jimmo's Grocery, Ashland, for many years. She rarely had a free moment but she enjoyed baking goodies for her friends and family around town and on occasion playing her piano.

She is survived by: one daughter, Marie Custis and her husband, Jack, of Norristown, PA; two grandchildren, Eric Custis of Kent, OH, and Haley Custis of Melfa, VA; three great-granddaughters, Savannah, Isabella and Angelina Custis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Fern was predeceased by one daughter, Dolores Webber; and five siblings, Eddie Despres, Floibert Despres, Donalda LaBonte, Benadette Long and Dolores McPherson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Ashland. Relatives and friends may greet the family Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning 9-10:30 a.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St.,PO Box 39, Ashland. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
