Faye's Story

Text size

Winter Harbor - Faye A. MacLean Bamford, 81, died peacefully on October 8, 2016. She was born November 5, 1934, and grew up in Lambert Lake, Maine, one of seventeen children. She spent her younger years working in seafood, egg and blueberry factories in different parts of the state and waitressing at the Red Barn in Milbridge. She was also one of the first women to dig clams in downeast Maine in the 1940s. When she was nineteen, she married her lifelong love, George Bamford, with whom she would have five children.
She and George lived in many different places. They began their life together while George was in the military, stationed in Texas and then Georgia. When they returned, they lived in Lubec and worked together in an egg factory. They resided in Bangor while George drove for a trucking company and taxi service, and lived in Milbridge while he worked in a tannery. They finally found home in Winter Harbor, where George drove the local school bus until his death in 2009. Faye spent her final years being lovingly cared for by her daughter, Kathy Kippen and her son-in-law, Russell.
Faye's life was centered around her family; her endearing and determined personality will be missed by all. Her straightforwardness and genuine interest in the lives of others are qualities of Faye's that will not be forgotten by the people in her life. She enjoyed spending time with family, going out to lunch, yard saling, shopping at Marden's and Walmart, and playing with her dog, Digger.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mattie and Donald MacLean, siblings, Kenneth, David Jr., Robert, Linda, Rosalee, Madonna, Florence, Sherry, Boyd, her husband, George, and daughter-in-law Marianne.
She is survived by siblings Emery, Georgia, Virgil, Vincent, Carol, Macky and Sandy. She is also survived by children George Jr. and his partner Sharon, Kathy and her husband Russell, Lisa and her husband Marc, Faith and her husband Jon, and Emery and his wife Laura. She had fifteen grandchildren, George III, Norman, Nathaniel, Dana, Tanya, Hope, Bella, Casey, Beth, Morgan, Nick, Jonathan, Joshua, Ashley and Christian, and number of great grandchildren.
