Faith's Story

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Faith Mackenzie Gourlay McLeish, 82, died April 12, 2014, in S. Weymouth, Mass. She was born July 29, 1931, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of Roy Mackenzie and Dorothy Inez Lang(Stevenson)Gourlay. She lived with her husband, David, in northeast Scotland before immigrating with their family to Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1957.

Shortly after coming to Maine, she found Jesus Christ as her Savior at the Skowhegan Church of the Nazarene. Her passion was to serve the Lord, which she did faithfully in many ways, especially those involved with children, such as Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Bible Quizzing and Choir. She was a "fixture" at Camp every summer for years whether as a counselor, the girl's camp chief or just helping in the kitchen. For someone who didn't drive, Faith had been around the state and even the country whether running a Bible study at the local nursing home, participating in district activities or representing the Nazarene Church as a delegate at General Assembly. For many years, foster children lived with Faith and David. She also participated in community events such as the monthly Ladies Coffee.

Faith loved being with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether up to their elbows in flour, playing a challenging game of Upwords or reading their favorite stories. Her bread, cookies and blueberry muffins were family favorites; she spent many hours and bags of flour to deliver everyone's favorites.

Faith is survived by four sons, David Michael and his wife, Ressie of Newport, Andrew and his wife, Sandy of Centerville, Va., Hamish of Holbrook, Mass., Richard of Holbrook, Mass.; a daughter, Pamela of Holbrook, Mass.; a brother, Michael of Glasgow, Scotland; a sister, Joy of Edinburgh, Scotland; seven grandchildren, David Matthew, LaDawna, Darolyn, Erik, Joshua, Halie and Conor; eight great-grandchildren, Kayla, Elise, Bradan, David Mason, Emily, Dominic, Myles and Isla. She was predeceased by her husband, David Mitchell.
