- Evangeline Mae (née Smith) Mitchell, of Edmonds, WA, went to be with her Lord on August 31, 2017 on her 88th birthday, after a brief hospitalization.
Born August 31, 1929, in Bangor, Maine, to Garvin and Sylvia Smith; she was a long-time resident of Maine. Evangeline was a 1947 Brewer High School graduate and employed at the Bangor Registry of Deeds, Hemingway and Sanborn Trucking firms and was shipping supervisor for Eastern Fine Paper. Prior to disability, she farmed in Orrington and taught ceramics and adult education.
She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and her animals. For more than 20 years she taught crafts in Edmonds (WA) Senior Center. She was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Shoreline, WA.
Evangeline leaves three very special, loving children: Stephen (wife Linda), Michael (wife Lisa) and Carolyn; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as cousins and many special friends, including Dora MacVicar of Windham "who has been so good to me." Although she lived her last 30 years in Washington State, to her, Maine was always home.
The Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Riverside Cemetery in Orono, Maine.
