Eva's Story

CARIBOU AND LIMESTONE - Eva Mary Hazelwood of Limestone died peacefully August 25, 2016, at Cary hospital after a long, full life. Eva was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick on May 9, 1920. She was the oldest daughter of Onezime and Helen (Lavoie) Picard, Caswell. Eva and her husband Melvin raised 6 children in Caswell and Limestone.
Eva was well known for her gardening, cooking, quilting, and knitting skills. Many family members and friends have been the lucky recipients of beautiful quilts, doilies, afghans, mittens and socks. Her most important gift to us all was her strong faith in God. Her home was always full of beautiful flowers and often the smell of fresh baked bread. Eva served as president (as well as other offices) of the Limestone Senior Club.
Eva met the challenges of the Great Depression, World War II, and raising a family with resourcefulness and without complaint. Her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and positive attitude have been an inspiration to all that know her. She was always young of heart and mind.
She is survived by her brothers: Onezime (Judy) Picard, Wolcott, CT; Albert (Iva) Picard, Bristol, CT; and sisters: Aldelaide Brown, North Highlands, CA and Dorothy Picard, Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Dale (Ellen) Hazelwood, Hampden; and sister-in-law Anna Sauls, Bangor.
