Bridgewater - Etta M. Shaw, 97, passed away Saturday June 10, 2017, at a Houlton Hospital. She was born September 11, 1919, in Bridgewater, the daughter of Eli and Viola (DeLong) Sharpe. Etta graduated high school in 1939 and then married her childhood sweetheart Harold Shaw of Mars Hill and they then moved to Milford CT. She attended a beautician school and worked as a hairdresser for many years. In 1956 she met the three Taylor-Brothers of New Haven and worked in their salons. In 1959, she and the Taylor Brothers opened the first State Academy of Hairdressing on Court St. in New Haven, CT. She was their first administrator and instructor for twenty four years. After the death of her husband she joined the Gal Mar Academy in North Haven as their administrator, and she was with them for thirteen years until she retired in 1994 and moved to Bradenton, FL. She was a member of the Mary Taylor Methodist Church in Milford and a lifetime member of the Milford Hospital Auxilliary where she volunteered on her days off. Etta is predeceased by her husband Harold Shaw, a son Gary Michael Shaw, a very dear friend Harold Harrower, four sisters, Mary Sharpe, Louise Nettleton, Gertrude Craig, and Shirley Foreman. She leaves behind a daughter Dianne Shaw Smith of Milford, CT a granddaughter Avery Bredice of Tampa, FL, two sisters, Christine Hartford of Deep River, CT, Muriel Craig of Washington St., two brothers, Arnold Sharpe of Dover Foxcroft, Lloyd Sharpe of Madison, WI, and several nieces and nephews.
