WINTHROP - Ethel B. Maxim, 80, of Winthrop and Orlando, Florida died unexpectedly on June 18th, 2014 at Florida Hospital East Orlando, surrounded by love with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She was born in Winthrop on June 30, 1933 to Stephen and Phyllis (Burr) Belden.

Ethel attended Winthrop schools, graduating from Winthrop High in 1951. She went on to attend Gates Business School in Augusta, working for several local businesses before retiring from Comm Tel Telephone Company in 1996. She loved attending her church and baking for any occasion for her family and others and making sure that nobody left her home hungry. Smiley faces, whoopee Pies, Red Cardinals," Lobstah" rolls, purple anything and making sure she always had earrings that matched her outfits were all part of her favorite things in life. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her great-great-grandchildren were a great joy in her life and always brought smiles to her face. She never had an unkind word for anyone or complained about any of her trials she had in life. Her stairway to heaven has been paved with all her joys in life.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, George (Sonny) Maxim; three children, Ginger Sponsler and husband, Jim, of Orlando, FL, Melody McGrath and husband, Joe, of Winthrop and Dana Maxim and wife, Ann, of Old Town; her grandchildren, Nathan Sponsler and Angela Hoops of Orlando, FL, Chris Sponsler of Augusta, Jadine McCluskey-Dodge of Litchfield, Steven Maxim and Sarah Ridley of Winthrop and Hilary and Kelsey Maxim of Old Town; her 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; and her brother Walter Belden and wife, Crystal, of Winthrop.
