Esten's Story

BEALS - Esten "Teckey" Almon Drisko, 90, passed on peacefully at Sunrise Care Facility, in Jonesport, Maine, on February 25, 2015. Born on January 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Ellis Drisko, Sr. and Christiana Drisko. Teckey received his nickname because of his love for checkers ("teckers"), beginning as a young child.

Teckey, a veteran of World War II, started his life on the water as a clam digger at the age of 10 and then earned a living as a lobster fisherman until the age of 81. He was an active member and deacon of the Lamb of God Church in Jonesport, Maine. He was a quiet, but strong man, whose generosity and compassion was displayed vividly through his bright blue eyes.

Teckey was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Sylvia Drisko; a brother, Ellis Drisko, Jr.; a sister, Arlene Alley; and grandsons, Clayton Stoddard and Colby Drisko.  He is survived by his wife, Etta Drisko. They married on April 23, 1977. He is also survived by a brother, George Drisko; son, David Drisko and wife, Louisa; stepdaughter, Denise Sykes and husband, Robert; stepson, Anthony French and wife, Rhonda; grandchildren, Lorelei Moore and husband, Timothy, Holly Swilo and husband, Geoffrey Lagat, Denise Cilley and husband, Jason, and Robert A. Sykes and wife, Kerry; great-grandchildren, Lauryn and Audrey, Ava, Levite and Malachi; and many dear family members and friends. Teckey will also be greatly missed by two very special friends, Anthony Beal Sr. and Anthony Beal Jr.

A celebration of Teckey's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the United Pentecostal Church in Jonesport, Maine. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
