Erma's Story

BANGOR - Erma (McGraw) Reynolds, 63, wife of the late Allie Reynolds, died peacefully at her home on May 16, 2015, surrounded by her friends and her feline companion, Callie. Erma was born in Bath, NB, Canada, March 31, 1952, the daughter of late Stephen and Bessie (Brown) McGraw. She was lovingly raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Hazel and Roy Estey of Houlton, after the death of her parents at age 5.

Erma was a 1971 graduate of Houlton High School and after high school she moved to Portland, where she met her husband. After his death in 1986, Erma moved to Bangor and worked in the health care field, retiring from the Maine Veterans Home in 2002. Erma was a very kind and gentle soft-spoken caring woman whose love for the elderly and animals was shown by the loving care she gave to both.

After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to the next adventure.

For the past 26 years she has made her home with her longtime companion and caregiver, Jeffers S. Ashley of Bangor. She also leaves several very close friends, June Leen, Donna Dumont, Betty Burgess and many other close friends; and her caretakers, Jackie and Mindy. Erma will also be remembered by The Estey & McGraw families of Aroostook County. The family of Betty Gatcomb also remember the loving care she gave our mother in her final years.

In keeping with Erma's wishes, informal graveside services will be held June 18, 2015, at noon sharp at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery, Civic Drive, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a food panty or animal shelter in your area or to a charity of your choice in Erma's memory.
