Erma Frances's Story
- Erma Frances Fletcher, 93, has gone home to be with her Lord. She died peacefully in her sleep June 13, 2017 in Dexter. She was born in Garland on Jan. 1, 1924, the daughter of Dick and Erma (Knight) Dancer. She was in the last class to graduate from Garland High School in 1942.
She was a veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy Waves. She was the first bookkeeper for Dexter Shoe Co., a Sunday School teacher at the Garland Community Baptist Church for several years, of which she is still a member. She volunteered for the Meals for Me program in Dexter for several years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, James B. Fletcher, and two brothers Harold and Merle. She is survived by her daughter, Lona and husband Tim Gallagher of Bangor, two sons, James R. Fletcher and his wife Susan of Exeter, Ernest B. Fletcher of Garland, six grandchildren; Shanna, Charles, Jason, Frankie, Sonya, Jay, seven great-grandchildren; Alauna, Carl, Austin, McKenna, Dustin, Dillan, Alex, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At her request "Frances" wanted only graveside services and these services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Garland with Military Honors for her service to her country.
