Erik's passion was fishing, and he loved hunting in his later years. Some of his many fishing trips were with his good friend Dr. Raymond Giberson to the Arctic. He enjoyed many hours of fishing, hunting, and having good humor and laughter with his long time best friend, Joey Seeley. Joey's son, Tyler became a special addition to the team. His most memorable fishing adventures were with his wife, daughters, and later their husbands and grandchildren. The family always spent much time together boating, water skiing, snowmobiling and skiing. He loved spending time during the summer weekends at their cottage with the family. Erik was a championship ski jumper and instructor at the Quoggy Jo Ski Club in Presque Isle and at the New Denmark Ski Mountain during the 1960's.

Erik is survived by his wife, Irene, three daughters: Judith (Judi) Smith and spouse, Harlow Smith of Presque Isle, Alanna Stetson and spouse, John Stetson of Holden, Maine, and Corinna Grant and spouse, Kenneth Grant of Presque Isle. He had nine grandchildren: Erik Smith, Jared Smith, Nathaniel Stetson, Sarah Stetson, Rebekah (Stetson) Campbell, Daniel Stetson, Austin Coffin, Tyler Coffin, and McKenzie Boyd. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Carter Smith, William Smith, Brandon Smith, Connor Smith, Jahaan Stetson, Imana Stetson, Ava Stetson, Jericho Stetson, Kaylix Campbell, Isabella Coffin, and William Coffin, all of whom were his delight and joy. He is also survived by a brother, Ingeman Sorensen of Mapleton and his long-time dear friend, Joey Seeley.
