Brewer - It is with profound sorrow that we announce that Emma Tinti Walton quietly excused herself from her physical life on July 28, 2014 at the home she shared with her son, Glenn, and daughter-in-law, Patricia, in Brewer. She joined her Italian ancestors after gracing this planet for 86 years.
Emma was born Nov. 6, 1927 on Staten Island, N.Y., the only child of Domenico and Olga (Del Bianco) Tinti. She graduated from Port Richmond High School on Staten Island and the Fashion Institute of Technology and Design in Manhattan. She worked in the fashion industry for several years and was excited to work for and with designers who later became famous. She left her career in fashion behind for marriage and motherhood and moved to South Windsor, Connecticut. When her son was older she returned to a new career as an administrative assistant to executives at Kaman Aerospace Corporation in Bloomfield, CT until she retired in 1990.
After her father's death, her Mother and Aunt Tina Del Bianco came to live with her in Connecticut, and after her mother's death in 1993, Emma and Tina decided to move to Hampden, Maine to be near her only son and grandsons. In Hampden she loved the simple joys of family and home. Gardening was her form of "church" and she spent many happy hours creating beauty in nature while pondering the mysteries of the universe. She was an active member of the Hampden Historical Society. Her greatest joy was helping her grandsons grow into the fine men they are today; her greatest service was as her Aunt's caregiver until Tina died at age 95; her only regret was that she never visited Italy, the place of her parents' birth. In 2008 Emma moved to Brewer.
Emma was predeceased by her parents and aunt. She is survived by Glenn and Pat; her grandson, Kevin Walton and his wife, Cyndi of Ellsworth; her grandson, Keith Walton, his wife, Rachael and their daughter, Evelyn Rose of Kent, Washington.
Emma wanted give her special thanks to all those who provided her medical care including Miki MacDonald, FNP, Dr. Donald Krause, and Dr. Manish Nepal; give her special remembrance to Sr. Anne Xavier Loubert, CSJ of Waterville and to the wonderful group she worked with at the Archives of the Hampden Historical Society; and give her special love to Pat's children - Diana Zoltko and family of New Hampshire, Adrianne Fielding and family of Maryland, and Joel P. Higgins of Texas.
Visiting hours will be 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, Maine. Interment will be in St. Bridget Cemetery, Manchester, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hampden Historical Society, P.O. Box 456, Hampden, Maine 04444.
Devoted daughter, niece, Mom and Nonni...we'll love and miss you forever.
