Emma's Story

CORINNA - Emma Jean (Saunders) Gustin, 80, passed away October 29, 2015 at a Bangor hospital.

She was born February 16, 1935 in Houlton, a daughter of Thomas and Dora (McKinnon) Saunders. She attended Houlton High School and when she was in her 30's she went to night school at Nokomis Regional High and received her diploma.

Emma Jean worked at the Dexter Shoe Company, Snowflake Canning Company, Project Ride, and was a caregiver for several people. She was a great seamstress and cook, especially for making the best yeast bread in the family. She also enjoyed gardening, yard saling, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Blakena and husband Jeffrey Scott of St. Albans, and Holly and husband George Mullis of Corinna; 3 sons, Patrick and wife Laurie Gustin of Corinna, Kirk and wife Cassie Gustin of St. Albans, John Gustin of Corinna; and stepson Delmont and wife Sue Benjamin of New York; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Emma Jean was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Gerald Gustin, her youngest daughter Elaine Davis; grandsons, Little John Gustin, Donald Davis Lovley, and Mark Gustin; brothers, Willis, Ralph and Charles Saunders, and sister Lois Clark.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stillwater Health Care in Bangor, where she was known as "the Queen" for her beautiful clothes, jewelry, scarfs and hats. Many found her to be humorous, not knowing what she would say next. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to visit her and found her also to be very entertaining.
