Emile "Pic"'s Story
Zephyrhills, FL, and Old Town
- OLD TOWN, Maine ... Emile "Pic" Joseph Doucette, Jr. joined his loving wife, Joan (Cyr) Doucette in Heaven on March 13, 2017. He was born on November 21, 1929. Pic was predeceased by his parents, Emile "Pic" Doucette, Sr. and Jeannette (Richards) Doucette.
Pic lived as he loved, with passion and dedication. He loved doing anything that exerted energy. He enjoyed his time playing basketball for Old Town High School. Being of average height, he was anything but average on the court. His talent for "hitting the basket" won him a State Foul Shooting contest while in school. After graduation, Pic joined the Navy and served his country well. He had a zest for life which led to some pretty interesting tales of his time in the military. In 1950, Pic married Joan, the love of his life and mother of his five children. They shared a great life together. He wasn't afraid of hard work. At one point in his life, he held three jobs to support his family. He spent several years working in delivery services. He was most proud of and felt privileged when he held the position of Assistant Equipment Manager for the UM Athletic Department. Anyone who knows Pic knew his passion for sports. He was fortunate enough to be with the UM Black Bears' Hockey Team when they won their very first National Championship. Pic loved his golf and became quite a regular on the greens in Hermon, West Old Town, and Zephyhills in Florida, where he spent the last 20 years as a snowbird. He was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus in Old Town.
Pic was the oldest of four boys: He leaves his brother Richard and wife, Ann; his brother, Donald and wife, Mary. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert. He will be missed by his five children and their family who loved, respected and cherished him. Debbi Taylor and partner, Tim Yerxa and her children, Jessica Taylor, Christopher Taylor; Dan Doucette and partner, Doreen Spieler; Diane Nelson and fiancée, Ray Pillsbury and her children, Myriah Nelson, Mercedes Nelson; Doreen Kennard and husband, Steve and her children, Calvin Libby and Becca Libby; Dustin Doucette and partner Claire and her children, Luke and Hailey. He will also be missed by an "adopted" daughter, Rosemary Richard and husband, Anthony, and their children, Amanda Richard and TJ Richard. He had several great grandchildren that put a smile on his face and filled his heart. "Papa" will be greatly missed by Kamryn Kiss, Mason Audet, Jordyn Lee, Jenna Crouse, Jaden Pete, Adrianne Hamel and Ellie Libby. Pic had many nieces and nephews that he loved and will be missed by them. Pic leaves behind several close friends from the Old Town area and special friends from ValleyDale Estates in Florida.
Donations in Pic's name may be made to the UM Athletic Department.
