Elsie's Story

STILLWATER - Elsie (Patterson) Stormann, 93, died on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Orono Commons in Orono, ME. Elsie was born in Hampden, ME, on March 26, 1922, the daughter of Ernest and Nina (Grant) Patterson.

She graduated from Hampden Academy in 1939 as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Farmington State Teachers College. On May 31, 1941, she was married to Howard W. Stormann Jr. They made their home in Stillwater where they raised their family. They were married for 59 years, before he predeceased her in 2000. Elsie worked for The United States Postal Service for 30 years, 17 of those years as Postmaster in Stillwater. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of The United States, a longtime member of The Stillwater Federated Church, and The Annie Matthews Women Society. She volunteered for many years at the church fairs and the bean suppers. Elsie had many different interests. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, playing cards, playing golf, watching the Red Sox, and eating out. Elsie and Howard traveled extensively throughout The United States to attend Postmaster conventions. She delivered meals for many years to shut-ins through the "Meals For Me" program. She loved riding to the coast for lobster and a picnic. Most of all she loved her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Tweedie of Old Town; her son, Mark Stormann and wife, Roberta, of Plainfield, NH; nine grandchildren, Portland Wright, Keith Pinnette, Jason Pinnette, Pamela Leighton, Carrie Tweedie, Randy Tweedie, Matthew Stormann, Amy Kotz, and Shelby Stormann; six great-grandchildren; dear sisters-in-law, Adath Stormann, Carlotta Cross and Lucille Snedden and husband ,George; one brother-in-law, Ronald Stormann; and many nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Howard W. Stormann Jr.; daughter, Bonnie Pinnette; grandsons, Joesph and Eric Pinnette; and her eight brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Friday, March 4, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, ME. A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at The Federated Church in Stillwater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Federated Church of Stillwater or a charity of your choice.
