Elmer's Story

CORINNA - Elmer M. "Pat" Bowden, 87, died November 28, 2015, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born in Corinna, December 26, 1927, the son of Harry and Luetta (Nichols) Bowden.

He farmed the family farm while going to Corinna Academy, graduating in 1946.

Pat worked at the Eastland Woolen Mill and farmed until about 1960. In 1955 he married Mary (Gower). He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter until 1997, when he and Mary joined the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Exeter.

Pat sold his cows and drove a milk truck for Ken Grant for 15 years. Pat later worked as a tower watchman for the Maine State Forestry Service at Allagash Lake from 1978-1986, and then Chase Hill Tower in 1987. He and Mary then worked at Caucomgomoc North Maine Woods, retiring in 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Gower) Bowden of Corinna; 5 children, Bruce and Bobbie Bowden of Etna, Barbara and Donald Bryant of Arrowsic, Bill and Susan Bowden of Corinna, Betty and Buck Mackenzie of Newport, and Brian Bowden of Corinna; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren, who will lovingly remember their Grampie; 4 siblings, Beulah Walker, Merrill Bowden, Edward Bowden, and Rodney Bowden all of Corinna; many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his best friend, Freddie Tyler.

Friends may call from noon until 2 PM, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Road, in Exeter. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM, with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, P.O. Box 131, Levant, ME 04456.
