Ellura's Story

HAMPDEN - Ellura (Buck) Libby (known as Babe to her family and friends), passed away on June 24, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born October 15, 1924, in Searsmont, the daughter of Henry and Bessie (Campbell) Buck. Ellura was a graduate of Hampden Academy.

After marrying Robert S. Libby in 1945, she became a devoted wife and mother. She was actively involved with several family businesses and especially enjoyed the horses owned and boarded at the farm. Through this, she befriended many children and adults. She and her husband bred and raised Standardbreds and enjoyed traveling the harness racing circuit watching them race. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and quilting for family and as donations to local nursing homes. She also enjoyed gardening. For many years, Ellura was a member of the Whitcomb-Baker VFW Auxillary in Hampden.

Ellura's home on Western Avenue was the gathering place for all family occasions. Anyone who knew Babe, knew that a warm welcome and a hot cup of coffee would always be awaiting them when they dropped by.

She is survived by her son, Philip Libby and his wife Rosanna of Newburgh; three daughters, Sandra Ames and her husband Steve of Winthrop, Jane Palmer of Newport, and Ellura (Lori) Sites and her husband Craig of Carmel; Grandchildren, Libby Zipperer and husband Cage, Scott Ames, Jon Ames and wife Erin, Bradley Libby and wife Michelle, Rachel Lavoie and husband Jesse, Bethany Healy and husband Dan, Matthew Libby and wife Johanna, and Joshua Sites; Great grandchildren, Shelby Cronkhite, Connor and Brayden Ames, Cole, Tanner and Eden Ames, Forest Libby, Abby and Evan Lavoie, Brandon and Natalie Healy, Ellura, Samantha and Lucas Libby; sister-in-law, Olive Buck, of Hampden.
