Bangor and Orono - Elizabeth 'Betty' Eager, 84, passed away peacefully at a Bangor healthcare facility on March 24, 2017.
Betty was born on November 3, 1932, in Island Falls. She grew up in Mount Chase and graduated Salutatorian at Patten Academy in 1951. She went on to nursing school and graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital in 1954 and worked there for the next 20 years. She then worked at the Orono Nursing home where she was the Director of Nurses for another 10 years. The last 5 years of her career were spent at Elizabeth Levinson Center in Bangor.
She married her husband, "Sonny" after he got out of the service in 1954. They were married for 49 years before he passed away in 2003. Ma and "Elvatos" house was the place to be on the weekends for good music and lots of laughter. She taught all of their kids the love of music and laughter and you could tell her laugh from a mile away. Betty and Sonny lived in Orono for 43 years before moving to Lincoln after they retired. They spent much of their time traveling and camping during that time. She loved to play the guitar and sing. There were always lots of kids around the house on Friday night for her "hootin-nannies." On Saturday nights, she loved to play cards with the girls. Betty was also a great cook and enjoyed doing so. She loved animals especially her loving cat, "Rusty". In 2003, she moved back to Orono to be closer to her family.
Betty was predeceased by her loving Husband Liston Eager, of Orono, both parents; Henry and Doris Hunter of Mount Chase, brother Phillip Hunter, of Patten, sister Gayle Grant, of Stetson, son Barry K. Eager, of Orono.
