- Elizabeth Ann Brescia, 79, passed away at her home in Detroit, Maine, on Friday, August 4, 2017, from complications associated with recently diagnosed cancer. She was surrounded by her immediate family as befitting the woman who dedicated her life to their care and well-being.
Betty was born January 23, 1938 in Houlton, Maine, to loving parents Kathleen and James Bohan. She was the second of eight children and spoke fondly of a wonderful childhood. Betty excelled in high school graduating as salutatorian despite a tough bout of rheumatic fever. From a young age her generous nature was evident, as when she bought her family their first television.
After High School, Betty worked at Loring Air Base in Limestone and met Richard Brescia of Caribou. They were married June 29, 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Houlton. There was no limit to her love for her five children born into their Caribou home - Michael and Colleen of Portland, Richard of Brunswick, Teresa of Bangor and Phillip of Ocala, Florida. She fulfilled her roles as mother and wife with love and dedication, passing on timeless core values to her children.
Betty's was a sharp, curious mind. She was an avid reader, loved history, and spent countless hours researching her and Richard's family genealogies. After a family gathering in July with her children and grandchildren, she was so filled with joy that she stated she could depart this life a very happy woman. Her comment captured the essence of what she valued most. Betty is survived by her husband and children, ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and siblings James, Brian, Nancy and Debbie all of Florida.
There will be a graveside service at a date to be determined. Donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made either to: St. Agnes Parish Church of Pittsfield c/o St. Anne Parish Center, P.O. Box 193, Dexter, ME 04930, or VNA Hospice of Eastern Maine at 885 Union Street, Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401.
