- Eleanor A. (Smith) DiBella, 91, died July 2, 2017, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loving family members. She was born on October 16, 1925, in Franklin, Maine, the daughter of Merle and Olive (DeBeck) Smith.
Eleanor was educated in Franklin schools and attended Beal College in Bangor. Eleanor met Angelo (Joe) DiBella in Bangor at a dance. They were married in 1948. They raised their family and resided for many years in West Haven, CT, retiring to Maine in 1980. After retirement, they enjoyed many years of travel between their homes in Sanford, Myrtle Beach, SC, and their beloved camp on Donnell Pond in Franklin. Eleanor enjoyed hosting many family gatherings, playing golf, reading classic literature, including a love of Russian authors but she especially love and enjoyed her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Sam DiBella and partner, Catherine Ednie, of Hancock, Jeff DiBella of Sullivan and partner, Roberta Sharp, of Bar Harbor, Kathleen Chamberlain and husband, Bruce, of Monroe, Joel DiBella and wife, Vanessa, of West Haven, CT, Isaac Lopez and wife, Heather, of Naugatuck, CT, and Joey DiBella and partner, Joanne Murray, of Sanford; grandchildren, Nicole DiBella and husband, Rob Liguori, of NYC, Caitlin Lakhdar and husband, Hakim, of Cambridge, MA, Clarke DiBella of Ansonia, CT, Daniel and Michael DiBella of West Haven, CT, Nate Chamberlain of Bristol Bay, AK, and fiancee, Tammy Tyler, of Prince Edward Island, Cananda, Adam Lopez of Naugatuck, CT, and Faye DiBella of Durham, NH; and great-grandchildren, Clarke "CJ" DiBella, and Kadin and Myron Lakhdar. She was predeceased by husband, Angelo J. DiBella; a son, Jonathan DiBella; sisters, Beverly Allen and Jacquelyn Leavitt; and brother, Ronnie Smith.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on July 24 at 1 p.m. at 55 Moose Rd., Franklin, Maine, (camp).
