NEWPORT - Eleanor M. Gordon, 94, died November 26, 2015, at a Palm Bay, Fla. nursing home. She was born August 10, 1921, in Dixmont, the daughter of James and E. Mae (Chase) White Banton.
She graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1939, and the Washington State Normal School in Machias.
Eleanor married Arthur E. Gordon in 1947. Eleanor worked in food service at the Newport Elementary School for many years. She loved the outdoors and will be remembered as an avid golfer. She was a member of the People's United Methodist Church in Newport. Eleanor was a past member of the Sebasticook Valley Golf Club and the Hampden Country Club.
She is survived by a son, Robert Dickey of Cocoa, Florida; 2 grandsons, Ronald Dickey of Weirs Beach, NH, and Ryan Dickey of Palm Bay, Fla.; a niece and a nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2010; her son, Bruce in 1996; and a brother, Donald White in 1969.
Graveside committal services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, in the spring.
