Eileen's Story

ELLSWORTH - Eileen M. "Tillie" (Hanscom) Tenan, 68, passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2015, at her home in Ellsworth. She was born August 2, 1946, in Bangor, the daughter of Grace G. (McDowell) and Clinton A. Hanscom.

Eileen graduated from Clearview High School (NJ), class of 1964, and then attended the University of Maine in Machias to earn her Bachelor's Degree cum laude. She taught for a year in Nebraska, then returned to Maine to marry her college sweetheart, Gene N. Tenan, with whom she enjoyed 40 years of marriage. She enriched the lives of those around her with her expert sewing and crocheting as well as with her gentleness, kindness, and humor. Some of her hobbies included reading and nurturing her pet cats and companions, Pepper and Ginger.

Eileen is survived by two siblings, Wendy L. Ham of Chesapeake, VA, and David H. Hanscom of Virginia Beach, VA; by her only niece, Julia L. Ham of Virginia Beach, VA; and by cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, all of whom she loved greatly. She was predeceased by her husband.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Eileen's wish was to be cremated, with her ashes taken to the home she shared with her beloved Gene. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
