Eileen's Story

Eileen L. Bradbury, 89, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at her home in Millinocket, in the presence of her husband and family. She was born August 23, 1926 in Millinocket, the daughter of Reuben and Bertha (Parsons) DeWitt.

Eileen grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1943, with the distinction of being the youngest graduate of Stearns at that time. She married Alfred G. Bradbury in 1947, and they spent nearly 70 years together. Eileen worked for several years at The Corner Drugstore in Millinocket, where many people will remember her filling prescriptions, waiting on customers, and keeping the store running. She also drove a schoolbus for a period of time, and worked for Marden's during the short time that the company had a store in Millinocket. Eileen was also handy with a hammer, and helped Alfred build their family home. She made many afghans by hand, and gave them to friends and family members. Alfred and Eileen travelled much through the years, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, and most of the lower 48 states. They also visited Panama, where Alfred had been stationed during World War II, and to Canada, including Newfoundland, the Gaspe Peninsula, and the northernmost village in Labrador, Nain. Eileen was a lifelong member of the Millinocket Baptist Church, and was very active in many church ministries over the years.

Eileen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alfred G. Bradbury of Millinocket; two children, Susan Martin and her husband Dennis, and Paul Bradbury and his wife Karen; a daughter in law, Terrylyn Bradbury; seven grandchildren and their families - Kiley Rodrigues and her husband Jayson and their children Olivia, Emma, Owen, Ezme, Oliver, and Everly; Ryann Gordon and her husband Jeffrey and their children Tyson and Taelyn; Brandon Bradbury and his children, Meadow and Riven; Brent Bradbury and his wife Dennise and their children Logan and Lily; Miles Bradbury; Melanie Bradbury; and Kristen Bradbury and her son Wesley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Alfred G. "Ted" Bradbury, Jr., a great granddaughter, Anabelle, and five siblings.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 P.M. Saturday, July 23 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Private interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery at a later date. Gifts in memory of Eileen may be sent to Honor Flight Maine, P.O. Box 1770, Portland, ME 04101-1770.
