BANGOR, ME - Edward W. Quinn, 94, passed away May 31, 2016 at Maine Veterans' Home surrounded by his family. He was born August 23, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts; the son of Jeremiah and Mary Quinn. Eddie was a long time resident of Winchester, Massachusetts and moved to Winterberry Heights Assisted Living Center in Bangor in 2010. Eddie spent the last several months of his life in the excellent care of the staff at Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor.
During WWII, Eddie served in the US Army's 26th Signal Company out of Charlestown, MA, part of a division nicknamed Americal. He was a sharpshooter M-1 Rifleman and communications linesman. Eddie was in active combat in the Fiji Islands and also in Bougainville where he earned the Bronze Star.
In 1956, Eddie married Gilda (Molea) Perritano. They were married 49 years when Gilda passed away on May 23, 2005. Eddie was also predeceased by his parents, his sister, Alice, and son-in-law, Donald Ray. Eddie leaves behind his two stepdaughters: Carol Johnson and her husband Edward Johnson of Brewer, ME; and Camille Ray and partner David McGilvray of Hudson, NH; three granddaughters: Debbie Brothers of Hudson, NH; Donna Heimlich and husband, Todd of Hamilton, MA; and Michelle Cashman and husband, Derek of Brewer, ME; and seven great-grandchildren.
Eddie enjoyed going out to eat; fishing off of Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard with his wife and faithful dog, Blinky; gardening; woodworking; painting; and was featured on the local news for taking up knitting at Winterberry Heights. Eddie was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A private family tribute is planned.
