LOUISVILLE - Edward Lee Mollman, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky; passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Edward was born on May 19, 1925, to Anton and Audrey Mollman in Hillsboro, Illinois, and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant in both World War II aboard the U.S.S. Medusa and in the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Bryce Canyon.
Edward graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1948. It was at the University of Illinois that he met his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Laney Mollman. They were married in 1949, and together raised five daughters. Edward's career as a professional engineer included plant management and engineering consulting roles at Standard Oil of Indiana, IMC Corporation, and Sverdrup Engineering. Edward was also active in civic and community life, winning election to both the town council and district school board in Wood River, Illinois, as well as being an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. Over the years to follow, the family lived in Wood River, Illinois; Orono, Maine; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Bethesda, Maryland and Sun City Center, Florida. Edward and Jacqueline made lifelong friends each place they lived. In retirement, Ed and Jackie shared a keen enjoyment of travel. Their adventures included numerous independent trips to the UK, Europe and Canada, as well as travel through most of the United States. The couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2009 to be closer to family.
Edward was known for his quick analytical mind, his passion for playing a very good piano, his love of the family's camp on Branch Lake (Maine), and most importantly, his devotion to his family. He was quick to say that Jacqueline was the best partner in life that anyone could have.
Edward was preceded in death by wife, Jacqueline Laney Mollman, his parents, Anton and Audrey Mollman, and his brother, Ralph Mollman. He is survived by his children: Meredith Parente of Louisville, Ky., Carol Mollman of St. Louis, Mo., Jennifer Mollman of Philadelphia, Pa., Katherine Waters of Louisville, Ky., Elizabeth and husband, Mark Behringer of Chicago, Ill. and grandchildren, Jeffrey Waters (Danielle), Alexandra Waters and Claire Behringer.
Funeral Service will be held at noon Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Pearson Funeral Home 149 Breckenridge Lane; Louisville, with entombment to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be between 10am and noon.
