MT. PLEASANT, SC - Edward "Ted" Burry of Mt. Pleasant, SC died suddenly of natural causes in Baltimore on Monday, October 18th. He died aboard a Stevens Company SC tugboat on which he served as a relief captain. His engaging personality was punctuated with a broad smile and a friendly greeting for friends and strangers alike. Throughout his life, he was a very kind and generous person.
Burry, age 45, was born in New Haven, CT and lived in Cheshire, CT for many years. He then moved to Fairhaven, MA. Ted graduated from Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, MA and attended The University of Maine before moving to South Carolina.
Soon after moving to the Charleston area he married Melanie Daniels, and they settled in Mt. Pleasant. The couple had two children, Colby, now 16, and Hannah, now 13. Their marriage ended in divorce, but they shared custody of the children and remained on cordial terms until present.
In addition to his two children, Ted leaves his father, Maxwell Burry and his wife Shirley, of Williamsburg, VA. Also remaining to cherish his memory are two sisters; Susan Burry Martin (Jay) of Derwood, MD and Sally Burry I'Anson (Lawrence) of Roanoke, VA. Also remaining are an uncle, John Bancroft and his wife Christina, who reside in Oxford, NY and Cuttyhunk, MA. He is also survived by his aunt Carol Burry Gage and her husband John Gage of Fairhaven, MA and Naples, FL. Ted had many cousins, nieces and nephews, and he delighted in family get-togethers.
Those who wish to make a gift in his memory are invited to do a good deed for another as Ted would do. The family will be committing Ted's ashes to the sea on Sunday morning October 25th. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.in the chapel at Seacoast Church located at 750 Long Point Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, (843) 881-2100.
