LAMBERT LAKE - Earl W. Grass, who almost made it to his 100th birthday, died May 14, 2015, in Calais. He was born June 1, 1915, in Vanceboro, to parents George W. Grass and Hazel Gallison.
He was a veteran, a woodsman with a special team of horses and a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife Jessie (Nason) Grass; his children, Janet Lea Rideout of Slidell, LA, Edith Ann Mayberry, of Lisbon Falls, Earlene Boggs (Billy), of Howland, Jeanette Beach (Donnie Morrisey), of Alexander, Marcia Scott (Danny), of McAdam, NB, Freda McIver (Kenny), Earl Grass, Jr. (Mary Mae) and Melissa Thompson (Steven), all of Lambert Lake. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lou Kalinowski; survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, who were longing to see him celebrate his 100th birthday in hopes of filling his wallet that was always kept under his pillow. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his family, including his sisters, Cynthia Longfellow and Alice Grass of Lambert Lake; and sisters-in-law Blanche McKinnon, of Brookton and Ernestine Grass (Elmont), of Vanceboro; brother-in-law, Delmar Nason (Sandra Lane), of Island Falls. He was predeceased by brothers, Elmont Grass and Horace Grass and sisters, Muriel Phillips, Margaret Sawyer and Marie Kelley; a special son-in-law, George Beach and granddaughter, Marie Roderick.
Visitation for friends and family will start at 6 p.m. Saturday May 16 and all day Sunday, May 17, at his daughter Freda's home, 980 Vanceboro Rd., Lambert Lake. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Rd., Danforth. Interment will be in Lambert Lake Cemetery.
