Durward's Story

PRESQUE ISLE - Durward C. Whalen 84, passed away Tuesday night January 12, 2016 at The Aroostook Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1931 in Lincoln, the son John and Theo (Smith) Whalen.

Durward served in the US Navy. He worked at Western Union from 1952 to 1985. He served on the SAD#1 School Board and on the board at Sister Mary O'Donnell Shelter for the Homeless.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Sheahan) Whalen of Presque Isle, a son Shawn Whalen of Mapleton, two daughters and their husbands, Stacey and Joseph Michaud, Amy and Jonathan Billings, all of Presque Isle, two sisters; Joan Workman and her husband Rob of Hamden CT and Maureen Woodard and her husband Harold of Lincoln, five grandchildren; Brooke and Justin Michaud, Lindsay Trombley, Taylor and Paige Billings, five great grandchildren; Devin Ossie, Emme Jo Vasquez, Olivia Michaud, Avah and Anah Trombley. He was predeceased by a sister Wilda Millett.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday January 16, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood with the Rev. Antony Alexander Maria Doss officiating. Friends may call 10AM Saturday until time of the Mass at the church. Spring interment will be at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle.
