Dr. David's Story
PANAMA CITY, FL - Dr. David R. Tolstrup died suddenly on February 13, 2016 leaving behind a large family who loved him and will miss him terribly.
He is survived by his parents, David A. Tolstrup and Barbara Tolstrup, of Malden, Mass.; his daughter, Julia Tolstrup of Trumbull, Conn.; his two grandchildren, Ella and Jude; his six brothers, Mark Tolstrup, Jim Tolstrup, Paul Goodwin, Adam Goodwin, Matt Goodwin, and Peter Goodwin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dr. Tolstrup was predeceased by his biological mother, Laura Goodwin and his grandmother, Mabel Tolstrup who played an integral role in his upbringing.
Dr. Tolstrup graduated from Malden High School in 1974. He worked at ICON in Cambridge Mass for several years as an engineer. At the age of 26 he decided to pursue a career in medicine and graduated at the top of his class from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Biology. He attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned a Doctor of Osteopathy degree. He completed his residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine before working in practices in Hampden and Princeton, Maine. Throughout his career, Dr. Tolstrup often focused on under-served and rural populations, practicing in Maine and Florida. He was an accomplished wood carver, avid genealogist, and a man with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge about life, the universe, and everything.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 26 from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock at Weir-MacCuish Funeral Home in Malden, Mass. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Malden.
