Douglas's Story

LINCOLN - Douglas Clifford Yost, 68, husband of Julie (Dow) Yost, took his final journey on May 4, 2015, after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer. He has joined his family in Heaven on the Lancaster porch. Doug was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was born on July 7, 1946, in Worland, WY, to Clifford and Emily (Lancaster) Yost.

On beautiful days, you could find Dougie outside puttering and mowing. He was our family grill master, celebrated for his "Grampie Dougie steaks" and spicy kielbasa. His many talents included carpentry, as shown through his design and building of his home's addition, of which he was so proud. Doug had many fond memories of his almost 50 years at the Lincoln Mill and the friendships formed throughout those years. Doug was very willing to help those in need; helping his children move on the hottest summer days, taking special care of elderly family members, and being a Anah Temple Shriner, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge. A special thanks to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, CHCS Home Health and Hospice Services, and especially to Jill Bouchard, whose support allowed Doug to be at home surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was predeceased by his mother and father; his grandparents, Charles and Flora Lancaster, and Charles and Mary Yost; and his many treasured aunts and uncles. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Julie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Denice and Mark Hatch, and Darci and Mike Hamm; grandchildren, Gavin Douglas and Evan Micheal Hamm, and Sidney Julianne Hatch; special cousins, Lynnette Riel and Gaylene Lancaster; aunt, Elizabeth Lancaster; sister-in-law, Barbara and her husband, John Sprague; brother-in-law, Stephen and his wife, Tammy Dow; and other cousins, nieces and nephews.

It was Doug's wish to be cremated with no formal service. Please feel free to make a donation in his memory to either CHCS Home Health and Hospice Services, 313 Enfield Rd., Lincoln, ME 04457 or to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, 33 Whiting Hill Rd., Brewer, ME 04412.
