EAST MACHIAS - Douglas "Doug" W. Lund, the son of Dalton and Rose (Hawkins) Lund of East Machias, passed away peacefully at the home of his son, after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was a born Nov. 1, 1951 in Machias.
He attended the local schools and graduated from Washington Academy in 1970. Doug enlisted in the Army after high school and served for four years included a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he received a Commendation medal for bravery. Doug drove truck for his living and was an Independent Owner Operator for many years. He drove or was leased to numerous trucking companies over the years the most recent one being Dysart's of Hampden, Maine. Doug loved driving and was able to see most of our country in his career. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and four wheeling. He also loved sports, the Boston Red Sox, Nascar, and avid fan of his all-time favorite the Dallas Cowboys.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Dalton and Rose (Hawkins Lund, and the mother of his three children, Nancy (Hammond) Lund. Doug is survived by two sons, Richard A Lund and wife, Ashley, of Winder, GA, Joshua A Lund of Corinth, and a daughter, Roxanne Walls and husband, JT of Pontotoc, Miss. Five grandchildren, Emma Lou Rose Lund of Winder, GA, Hannah Wilson of Sulphur, Louisiana, Kristopher Lund, Kelynn and Elsa Liana Walls of Pontotoc, Miss. Two brothers, Stephen D. Lund of Dacula, GA and Wendell Lund of Madison, Wis., and one sister, Audrey (Lund) Lake and husband, Kenneth of Highland PLT; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug is also survived by his good friend and fellow trucker, Tommy Woodward of Sherman Mills.
Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Inc., Machias. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Machias, followed by a graveside service and burial at Jacksonville Cemetery, East Machias.
