Douglas's Story

BREWER - Doug Joy, 83, passed away at a local rehab center on March 25, 2015. He was born in Camden, November 29, 1931. He grew up in Camden and Bar Harbor and graduated from Bar Harbor High in 1950. Doug then went to school in Michigan to learn auto mechanics. He enlisted in the Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Lewis in 1952. He worked for New England Telephone Company and subsequent phone companies in Bangor and retired in 1985 from AT & T to start his own telephone repair business, Joy Tel. Doug was a hard worker and enjoyed his work immensely. Doug's beloved wife of 55 years, Pat Joy, predeceased him in 2007. He is survived by his children, Carol Gross and her husband Randy-Brewer, Richard Joy-Spring Hill, Florida and Mary Libby and Greg Chamberlain-Hampden. Grandchildren, Jason Gross and his wife Jaime and their children, Sarah and Matthew-Brewer, Jennifer Morin and James Gehrke and their children, Gabriel (who was very special to Doug) Kaiden and Julia-Brewer. Benjamin Mooreside and Meagan Fleming and their son Blake-Clifton. Doug Joy will be sadly missed by his family. He will be buried with Pat in Woodlawn Cemetery in Brewer.
