Douglas's Story

BUCKSPORT - Douglas E. Gray, 69, died at his home Monday June 16, 2014. He was born the son of Wilbert and Bessie (Sellers) Gray in Bangor on August 2, 1944.

He grew up and went to school in Stonington, where he still has many friends. Doug worked for a number of years on an Oceanic Research Vessel. Following that his path took him into a career in law enforcement. He began that career as a patrolman for the town of Stonington in 1973, in 1976 he moved to the Bucksport Department as a patrol office. He would move through the ranks as a union steward, training office and sergeant. In 1980 he was promoted to Chief of Police, a post which he held until his retirement in 2009. Doug also served as District 7 Representative of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association. In his down time Doug had a great love of hunting.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Pamela E. (Snowden) Gray, a son Shane Gray of Bangor, one granddaughter Grace Weeks, two special cousins Jeannine Buckminster and Rose Marie Peatman, as well many special nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday June 27, 2014 at the Performing Arts Center of Bucksport Middle School, Miles Lane, Bucksport. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to the Bucksport Animal Control Shelter P.O. Box C-1 Bucksport, ME 04416 or the Bucksport Firefighters Association P.O. Box C-1 Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bucksport.
