Douglas's Story

MILO - Douglas E. Blodgett, 84, beloved husband of Bessie (Chessa) Blodgett, died September 5, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 3, 1930, in Sherman, the son of Richard and Doris (Shorey) Blodgett.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he had been employed as a maintenance engineer for the City of Rockland for many years. Douglas was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of several Masonic Lodges: Piscataquis Lodge No. 44 AF & AM in Milo, Rabboni Lodge, Valley Lodge of Rockland, and Valley Lodge of Portland. He had served as District Deputy Grand Master.

Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Bessie of Milo; two stepsons, Bobby Burke of Lincoln, and James Burke and his wife, Paula, of Manchester; two stepdaughters, Pamela Sabal of Bangor, and Nancy Daigle and her husband, Gene, of Lincoln; two brothers, Eddie Blodgett and his wife, Jean, of Brownville, and Gerald Blodgett and his wife, Sharon, of Corinth; and a sister, Thelma Chessa of Milo. He will be remembered by two men he thought of as sons, Lee Robinson of Warren, and Paul Robinson of Thomaston.

Friends are invited to call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Masonic services said at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Pastor Bob Young officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, c/o Pam Payeur, PO Box 1797, Saco, ME 04072.
