Dorothy's Story

Text size

Augusta and Plymouth - Dorothy Austin Turner, 90, a kind and joyous soul, was called to be with her Lord and dear son, Gary, on June 27, 2017.
Dot was born May 4, 1927, in Palmyra, a daughter of Arthur and Esther (Annis) Austin. She attended schools in Pittsfield, graduating from MCI in the spring of 1945. She began her work experience in the offices of Milliken Woolen Mill and then the Medwed and Lown's Shoe Factory in Pittsfield.
She married Allen M. Turner of Corinna on December 22, 1951. When they moved to Millinocket she began work at the Great Northern Paper Company offices. Their son Gary was born in there on March 1, 1959. After they moved to Augusta, Dot dedicated herself to a 25 year career with the State of Maine Motor Vehicle Division, retiring as a supervisor in 1995.
Dot and Allen were able to enjoy more time at their summer cottage on Gray Pond in Plymouth where they and his family had summered for many decades. It gave her great joy to be on the water listening to the loons and photographing all the laughter, music and activity of the many people she gathered around her. She was a devoted member of the Methodist church.
She leaves behind her husband Allen of 65 years; her daughter-in-law Cyndi Turner; a special family friend Joan Burke; and many dear friends, nieces and nephews. Dorothy and Allen lost their only child, Gary Allen Turner, to a long battle with cancer in April 2016.
Committal services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, at a time to be announced.
Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Donald Magioncaulda and his staff, as well as the staff of Augusta Health and Rehabilitation Center for the devoted compassion and care she was given by them all.
