Dorothy's Story

BUCKSPORT - Dorothy I. Shute, 84, passed away Jan 15, 2016 at a local health care facility. She was born May 20, 1931 in Calais to Frank Lawless and Estella (Hatt) Lawless.

Dotty was born and raised in the Woodland-Calais area. She eventually settled in Bucksport and raised a family of six.

Dotty & Ralph loved to bowl, bowling couples leagues & tournaments. She loved her flower gardens and canning veggies and making pickles and sharing them with her family. She and Ralph spent many winters in Florida after retirement and enjoyed spending many Christmas' in Kentucky with her daughter Mary and her family. She enjoyed following her children and grandchildren through many school functions and sporting events. She loved the Red Sox, hardly ever missing a game whether it was on the radio or TV. One of her favorite pastimes was doing crossword puzzles, and many visits with family including coffee, muffins and of course her lipstick.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Ralph Shute, Joseph Ridell and Arden Sherrard & her son Wayne Sherrard. Siblings Harry, Frank, Carl, Thomas and Violet.

Dot is survived by siblings, Margie Amer of Keene, NH & Fredrick Lawless of Orland, ME. She is survived by her children Cindy (Sherrard) Bakeman & husband Paul ,daughter Toni (Sherrard) Terry & husband Rod, Pat (Sherrard) Warren, Mary (Ridell) Silva & husband Bob and Leslie (Ridell) Wilson & husband Greg. Grandchildren Travis, Katy, Lindsay, Dan, Samantha, Jeff, Jared, Megan, Jessica, Cody, Cassi and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dot's family wishes to express heart felt appreciation to the staff of the Woodland Assisted Living Facility. Their professional care and many kindnesses over the last eight years will not be forgotten. End of life hospice care, which included a gift of a manicure with red nail polish, framed a picture of many hands.

There will be no service, but a graveside service for the family and friends in the spring at Sandy Point Cemetery. Service date to be determined.
