HOLDEN - Dorothy A. Nelligan, 84, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on June 30, 2016. She was born July 15, 1931, in Brewer to George and Mary (Coleman) Adams.
Dorothy graduated from Brewer High School in 1948. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She is fondly remembered by all for her delicious food, generosity, strong faith, warm hospitality, and loving ways.
She is survived by her three daughters, Christina Nelligan of Augusta, Susan and her husband, Ronald Scott, of Holden, and Margaret "Peggy" and her husband, Brian Bush, also of Holden. "Granny" leaves behind her adoring grandchildren, Andrew Scott and his wife, Jessica, of Hampden, Matthew Bush and his girlfriend, Dalaylun Demmons, of Orono, and Caroline Bush and her boyfriend, Zachary Stanwood, of Holden; and two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Abigail Scott of Hampden. Dorothy is also survived by her two sisters, Nellie Hamm and Louise Bissell, both of Holden; three brothers, George Adams of Dedham, Joseph Adams of Corinth, and Frederick Adams of Quartz Hill, California. Additionally, she is survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Nelligan, Sr.; a son, Donald "Donnie" W. Nelligan, Jr.; four brothers, John, William, Robert, and David Adams; four sisters, Mary Patterson, Pauline Mercier, Alice Sherman, and Joyce "Peggy" Loper.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to Tricia, Leyna, Connie, and Melissa of Hospice of Eastern Maine and Jane, Suzanne, Darlene, and Jackie of Aging Excellence.
Visiting hours will be 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State Street, Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 8, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish (St. John's Church), 217 York Street, Bangor. Interment will follow at the family plot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites you to join them for a reception immediately following burial.
