- Dorothy T. Coleman passed away peacefully at the Eastside Center for Health & Rehabilitation in the early hours of Friday, June 30, 2017.
Born Dorothy Agnes Travers on Dec. 26, 1931 in Lexington, MA, she was the eldest of six children born to Henry and Hazel Travers. Upon graduating from high school, Dorothy entered the medical field, becoming a registered nurse and excelling as a surgical assistant in the OR. She was married to Robert Trent Coleman of Gary, IN, with whom she enjoyed traveling and such activities as scuba diving. No longer able to practice medicine after a series of circumstances rendered her legally blind, Dorothy went back to college in her early 40s, earning a degree in social work. This led to a second career in which she continued to provide comfort to people in need as a well-respected social worker.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Henry Travers of Fairfield and Clif Travers of Kingfield. She is also survived by her sons, Sean K. Coleman of Brewer and Bryce P. Coleman of Los Angeles, CA., as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be no funeral services at this time, but a small ceremony will be announced to friends and family at a later date.
