ETNA AND CUMBERLAND - Dorothy B. Moon Ayer, 93, died Nov. 29, 2015 at her Etna home following a period of ill health. Dorothy was born in Newport on Sept. 15, 1922 the daughter of Alphonzo and Thirza (Young) Conant.
She graduated from Newport High School in the class of 1940. While in high school she enjoyed playing basketball. Following her graduation she moved to the Portland, Maine area and worked at National Biscuit Co. and then moved on and started her career as a secretary for Maine Bonding Ins. Co. for many years. She also worked under an apprenticeship to learn hair dressing and earned her license to operate in Maine. Dorothy worked for Cook Concrete, Ramada Inn, and as a flagger for Lane Construction Co. She was the widow of Raymond Ayer Sr. who predeceased her on July 23, 2013.
After moving back to Etna she and her husband Ray had a little shop where they sold wood Crafts and Ceramics, that she enjoyed making. She enjoyed going to yard sales where she bought treasures, (that she didn't want to part with).
She is survived by her son and his wife Ronald and Diane Moon, her daughter Nancy Moon, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother, Vincent Conant of Etna, and her sisters, Gloria Wilson, of Etna and Joyce Bubar and her husband Verne of Etna, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Ayer, her son Tommy Moon, her daughter Diane and her sister Elaine.
Dorothy will also be fondly remembered by her friends and caregiver Respah Graves and her husband Allen, "her boys" Ashton and Maddox Graves, that had come to love as her own grandsons.

Friends may call from 11 am to 1PM Thursday December 3, 2015at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center 34 High Street Newport where funeral services will be conducted at the completion of the visitations, at 1 PM with Rev. Vasha Piermont officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery Yarmouth, Me on Friday11am, Dec. 4, 2015.
