NEWBURGH - Doris K. Sands, 94, died peacefully July 1, 2015 at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born October 5, 1920, in Bridgewater, the daughter of Roland and Minona (Kinney) Kingsbury.
Doris graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy, class of 1939. She married Earl Sands in 1941. They moved to Hampden, where they owned and operated Earl's Exxon for 21 years. She loved traveling, camping, and snowmobiling. In later years she enjoyed fishing with her family at East Grand Lake.
Doris was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 60 years on August 3, 2001; and a grandson, Donald McLain, in 1989. She was also predeceased by 3 sisters, Thelma Brooker and Vera Collins, both of Mars Hill, and Maxine Grass of Waterville; and 3 brothers, Lewis, Bernard, and Donald (her twin) Kingsbury. She is survived by a daughter Carolyn Parker and husband Eddy, of Industry; a son Donald McLain and wife Georgia, of Newburgh; 5 grandchildren, Steve McLain and Celeste, of Newburgh, Mark McLain and wife Wendy of Palmyra, Shari Brann, Kim Tibbetts and husband Rick, of Industry, and Peggy Stansfield and husband Dan of Berwick; 9 great grandchildren, Corey Tibbetts, Michelle and David Stansfield, Elizabeth, Jazmyn, Jade, and Joey McLain, Andrew McLain, and Matt Brann; and 4 great great grandchildren. Doris is also survived by special friends Shirley and Chesley Smith, and Zelma Young.
There will be a graveside service at 1 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Lakeview Cemetery, Western Avenue, Hampden. Those who wish to remember Doris in a special way may make gifts in her memory to a charity of one's own choice. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
