Doris's Story

GLENBURN AND ROSSMOOR, CA - Doris passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Tuesday, Sept. 8th.

Doris maintained her strong will and resolute determination as she and her excellent health care providers fought her cancer over these last fifteen months. Even to the end, she continued to battle and left this world on her own terms.

Doris was born in Bangor, Maine where she attended schools and graduated from the University of Maine with a Master's Degree in Education. Doris was a long time educator and taught for many years in the Glenburn/Hermon School District. She was always very active and served her community in various civic and political endeavors. Shortly after the death of her husband, Charles, she moved to California in June of 2000 and settled in the Rossmoor Senior Community. Doris flourished in the California sunshine and enjoyed many activities in her new home. She continued to be active and especially enjoyed her animals, and caring for the animals of others as well as various community and neighborhood projects such as Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and Emergency Preparedness.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Rich (Lawrence) of Walnut Creek, Grandchildren, Dawn Rowell of Colorado Springs, Kim Cyr (Matt) of Virginia Beach, Lawrence Rich (Jerico) of San Francisco, Melanie Snow (Kevin) of Virginia Beach, special family friend, Scott Johnson of San Francisco and Great Grandchildren, Robert Rowell, Christopher Rowell, Michael Rowell, Paige Cyr and Troy Snow.

Doris is predeceased by her husband, Charles (Charlie), daughter Sheryl and grandchild Troy Rowell.

By request there will be no services. Doris will be returned home to the family plot at Lakeview Cemetery in Glenburn.
