CORINTH - Donald L. Lakeman, 82, died Mar. 27, 2015 at his home with his companion, Rolande M. 'Frenchy' O'Clair by his side. He was born Jan. 22, 1933 in Holden, the son of Ernest and Beatrice (Getchell) Lakeman.
As a young man, he served in the army as an M.P., worked with his father at a fishing wharf, operated two gas stations in MA, returned to Maine to work at the Lakeman Scrap Yard, retired from Cumberland Farms as a truck driver and later operated his own scrap yard for 25 years, assisted by Chet Gray and Josh Harvey.
Surviving in addition to his companion of 21 years are three daughters, Cheryl Abati and her husband, Steve, Debbie Barrows and her husband, Donny, all of MA and Linda Lakeman of FL; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Holmes and his wife Marcia of MA and two sisters, Evelyn Salvador and her husband, Albert of MA and Ellen Bearse and her husband, Edward of Orrington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Maclean.
Friends may call from 1-3 PM Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth until time of services at 3 PM. Those who wish may make donations in Don's memory to the benefit of the family in care of Rolande O'Clair, PO Box 211, Corinth, ME 04427.
