Don's Story

STONINGTON - Don Brian Lord, 84, passed away at home, October 31, 2015, while surrounded by his family. He was born July 10, 1931, in Calais, ME to parents, Morton and Arlene (Pendleton) Lord and grew up on Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada.

He moved to Lubec, Maine, attended, and graduated from Lubec High School. He graduated from the University of Maine in Orono as a member of the class of '53. To this date he was the oldest living member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was instrumental in starting the Orono chapter. His college years were interrupted when he entered the U.S.Army where he served in Army Intelligence during the Korean conflict. It was during this time, in 1952, that he married his wife of 63 years, Theresa "Terry" (Ackley).

Don Brian's career was long and varied. He taught high school history and math in Chatham, New Jersey prior to becoming the Division Manager of Silver Burdett Co. Following semi-retirement, Don and his family returned to Maine where he purchased and ran for 35 years, what was to become Shepard Select Properties.

Don Brian was a supportive father and grandfather and was most always in attendance at sports and school events, wearing the ever-popular Yankees ball cap.

Don is survived by his wife, Theresa (Ackley), of Stonington. He is also survived by 6 children and 11 grandchildren: daughter, Daune Lord and her husband Dr. Richard Hines of Blue Hill, their children, Harrison Hines and wife, Sarah, of Gorham, Mallory Hines and partner, Jeff Dunkle, of Boston, and Nathaniel Hines and partner Becca Marckoon, of Castleton, VT; son Gregory Lord and wife, Joanna of Stonington; Daughter Kim Lord and partner Barbara Finch of Camden; daughter Lisa Lord and partner Laurie McLeod of Old Town; son Richard Lord and partner Suzanne Torrey of Blue Hill, their children, Jordan, Logan and Megynn of Blue Hill; daughter Jody (Lord) Ciomei and husband, Kurt Ciomei of Stonington, their children Nicholas and his wife, Jamie of Durham, Bryant, Collin, Janelle and Hayden all of Stonington.

His parents, Arlene and Morton Lord, his brother Paul Lord and a daughter, Michelle Lord, predeceased him.

Memorial services to be determined at a later date.
