Dolores's Story

PATTEN - Dolores (Myra Carson) Dunn passed away peacefully on January 26, 2015 at Mountain Heights Nursing Home; she is now united with beloved husband Francis and dog Molly. Dolores was born September 13, 1927 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the oldest of four girls, all of whom are still living in Erie, PA (Wanda Adams, Marjorie Hierls and Lorna Thayer).

After graduating in June 1945 from Academy High School Erie, Pennsylvania, Dolores was employed by Manufacturers Association Casualty Insurance Company for a number of years before marrying Francis D. Dunn in 1950. In the spring of 1952 Francis accepted a job with the State of Maine as a Wildlife Biologist, arriving in the Patten area in the summer of 1952. Living first at Shin Pond in a camp during the summer of 52 and then Island Falls for several years before settled in Patten.

Dolores is survived by her three children; Paula Breitling and Husband Ronald of Conifer Co, Mark Dunn and Wife Khatijah of Yorktown Heights, NY, David Dunn and Wife Denise of Saco, ME and grandchildren: Danielle (Dunn) Wing and Michael Dunn of Yorktown Heights NY, Dustin Breitling of Conifer CO and one great grandchild Kieran Wing of Yorktown Height, NY.

Dolores was an avid gardener, an excellent cook, enjoyed cycling, cross country skiing and international travel. She was a longtime member of the Stetson Memorial Methodist Church before becoming a member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church. Dolores had an irreverent sense of humor that she shared with many, including Dave & Ruth Brooks, Frank & Sally Landry, Sharon McPhee Violette and Mr. & Mrs. Dr. Ronald Blum. She had many fond memories of her longtime neighbors Sherwood & Madelyn Howes, Robert & Minnie Adams and Roland "Stoke" & Phyllis Wilkins.

The family would like to thank her lifelong neighbor Sharon McPhee for caring for their mother over the years. Without her assistance Dolores would not have been unable to sustain the high quality of life she had for many years. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Mountain Heights nursing home for the great care they gave Dolores.

Funeral services will be announced in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Veterans Memorial Library, 30 Main Street, Patten, ME.
