PASSADUMKEAG, OLD TOWN, AND NIANTIC, CT. - Dianne E. (Smith) Emery, 74, Died Nov. 5, 2014, at home with her loving family at her side. She was born June 21, 1940 in Great Works, the youngest of 13 children of Carleton and Lucy (Wallace) Smith. Being the baby, she grew up in a home with much love and companionship from her parents and 12 siblings.
She married Laurice M. Emery, moved to Ct. and had 2 children, Leonard and Laurina. She was a very loving, compassionate, selfless, strong willed person and her life was her family. She spent most of her life working to provide for them. She returned home to Maine, where she wanted to be, after her children grew up. She spent her remaining 35 years on the ridge in Passadumkeag that she loved so much, where she spent her days gardening, working in her yard, doing firewood and enjoying her many neighbors that had become her family. She touched everyone she knew with the special way she made you feel. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
She is survived by daughter Laurina Emery-Jacobs, grandson Quilan Emery Jacobs of Georgia; Niece and caregiver Cheryl Smith; step-daughter April Emery Burnell; two sisters Blanche Gould; Helen Babb and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Laurice M. Emery; son Leonard K. Emery and 10 of her siblings.
Plans for a celebration of her life are being made for the spring.
In lieu of flowers for her love of family, animals and her little community you may choose any of the following for a donation in her name: Her grandson's college fund, a local animal shelter or Passadumkeag Baptist Church.
